About Us

Banner Health employs more than 27,000 people. Based in Phoenix, Arizona, it is one of the largest nonprofit health care systems in the country, and the second largest private employer in Arizona. About 6,000 physicians are currently affiliated with our 21 nonprofit facilities in Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Nebraska, Nevada, and Wyoming.

While the private practice model continues to be the core of our delivery system, we’ve developed a clinical practice model for employed physicians that is designed to address changing health care needs in our communities, and the varied lifestyle aspirations of our doctors.

Evidence Based
Today, much of the innovation at Banner Health facilities is inspired by evidence-based research supporting healing environments and patient safety. Just as evidence-based medicine guides quality patient care, evidence-based research now guides the design of today's hospitals.

Specialized Services
In addition to emergency and medical services, Banner Health facilities offer a variety of specialized services, including heart care, cancer treatment, delivery of high-order multiple births, organ transplants, bone marrow transplants, rehabilitation services, and behavioral health programs. Banner Health is also involved in leading-edge research aimed at helping patients suffering from some of the most serious diseases and conditions, including spinal cord injuries and Alzheimer's disease.

We invite you to take a closer look at the breadth of practice opportunities with Banner Health in our seven Western states. Our facilities put you in the kind of communities you’ve probably been visiting for fun, for years. It’s time to make the most of it—at work and play.

As a Nonprofit
In 2006, the company had annual revenue of about $3.1 billion and assets totaling $4.1 billion.

As a nonprofit health care company, Banner Health exists to support our charitable mission of providing health care services to the communities we serve, rather than generate profits. That means that every dollar we earn is reinvested into new hospital beds, new or expanding patient care services, new technologies, maintaining existing equipment and facilities, and paying employees’ salaries.

Banner Health also provides charity care through our Financial Assistance Program. In addition, we subsidize the medical education costs of hundreds of medical residents (physicians in training), the majority of whom will stay in Arizona.

Additionally, Banner Health provides important, free services like the Banner Regional Poison Center Hotline, health information provided by registered nurses through our Banner Health Call Center, and school-based health clinics for kids in economically challenged areas. Clinics throughout the Banner Health system also help the working uninsured or under-insured by providing care at a reduced or sliding-fee basis (based on income).
